why do i love tea towels and why am i climbing into dryers?
Posted March 28, 2010 – 8:45 am in: Green Cleaning TipsI love tea towels. I love everything associated with them eg. washing machines and dryers. I wear my mums ones when shes not home. In textiles class for my fashion project while everyone made dresses out of silk fabrics i made a dress out of tea towels. sometimes even when i go to school i wear a tea towels in my underwear for the whole day. my parents don’t know. i usually grab one that’s hot from spinning around in the dryer in the morning when i get dressed.
At my house we have 2 washing machines a front load and a top load. Lately when my parents go out they leave the clothes washing in the machines, as soon as i see them go around the corner i go upstairs get dressed in tea towels, cleaning cloths, gloves, etc and go to the laundry chute, there’s normally a basket there full of washing so i climb into it and pretend im being taken to the laundry chute by my mum, i’ll say every now and then ” No, not the laundry chute”. because the laundry chute is installed in the cupboard it has like a mechanical arm like on the side of garbage trucks, so all my mum has to do is put the basket inside the yellow square press the green button on the control box and walk off and the mechanical arm extends out grabs the basket by the sides, lifts it up vertically then swings the basket upright, as its being lifted the mechanical doors on the chute slide up and it tips it down the chute and then the empty basket is lowered as the doors close. when my parents go out i place the basket of laundry on the square quickly press the button on the box and sit back into the basket just as its lifted up. im suddenly tossed down the chute and land inside the chute. in the basement level of the chute there’s another mechanical door which i have to use all my strength and pry open. once open i lift the lid on the top load washing machine – by now its filled or just about to finish and start washing, i climb in and wedge myself inside the washing machine and then try to shift the machine enough so that it rocks and makes the lid slam shut which it always does, as it shut the machine resumes the cycle and starts agitating me with the clothes which makes me feel all good inside, i keep taking breaths every few seconds even though its on low water level and i get out before the final spin, the spin rinse feels good because it slowly spins and rinses me with fabric softener. after the machine finishs i unload it and put it all into the tumble dryer, we’ve got one of those tumble dryers where its like a cabinet with a windowless door and when u open it theres a large drum inside – i can just fit in with a full load of laundry. i load it in shut it and start it then pull the door open and it stops. the trick ive found is that you get a piece of tape and put it over the little button on the inside of the door which determines if the doors open or not so i get in with the laundry load the rest on top of me so that im in the centre of the laundry and put the tape over the button as soon as i put the tape on i pull the door shut because as soon as the machine detects that the machine door is closed it continues the last cycle. because the machine isnt hot yet it spins slowly without blowing air in so my body gets used to the gentle shift of the dryer and dosent make me sick. as soon as it reaches the temperature it automatically startes spinning faster and blowing air into the machine, i cant hear if my parents come home until i hear my mum loading more laundry into the washing machines, if i hear her i stay spinning inside the dryer and wait untill the coast is clear. when im inside i have it on delicates cycle which is low heat with a cool down, but when my mum comes home she turns the dial back up to the whites and colours which is High heat with no cool down cycle, one time it was so hot i think i would have died if i was in another minute until the machine stopped and i heard my mum walk out of the basement so i quickly got out.
we recently went on holiday and where we were camping in out caravan was close to the amenities block which of course meant i was next to the laundry so i could hear the machines running all the time. when i was supposebly going to the toilet or having a shower i would go there and climb inside the machines which were always empty. one day a lady walked in and i quickly said i was the gas fitter working on a dryer that had an out of order sign, she went ova to a washing machine that had finished and pulled out a load of towels and tea towels, and put it into a dryer and slammed the door she checked her pockets for change and realised she had none and went to walk back to her camp, thinking she wouldn’t be back for a long time i climbed into the machine and closed the door a few minutes later i heard the door on the laundry room slam and i knew she was back i kept quiet hoping she wouldn’t start the machine but all of a sudden i heard coins being inserted and then the machine made a buzz sound and started. t
